A handwoven mul cotton saree in bands of sunflower yellow, warm orange and deep rust, each stripe edged with a fine gold line. The pallu closes with a gold ribbon border and a row of hand-knotted tassels in yellow and maroon.

Mul cotton — mulmul — is one of the lightest cottons woven in India. It breathes, it drapes softly rather than stiffly, and it gets more comfortable every time you wash it. This is the saree for a long working day in Bengaluru heat, not one you put away for special occasions.

Product Details

  • Fabric: mul cotton (mulmul), handloom
  • Length: 5.6 metres
  • Width: 1.2 metres
  • Blouse piece: not included
  • Border: gold ribbon border
  • Pallu: tassels in yellow and maroon
  • Made in India, sourced directly from weavers

How To Style It

The stripes are already doing the work, so a solid blouse is the easier choice. Rust or maroon picks up the darker bands and the tassels. Mustard keeps it tonal and warm. If you want contrast, a deep bottle green blouse sits well against yellow without fighting it.

Pair with oxidised silver or antique-finish jewellery. This is a warm palette — it sits beautifully on wheatish and deeper skin tones, and lifts against gold.

Wear it to the office, to a morning function, to Ugadi or Varamahalakshmi, or to Deepavali — cotton is the safer fabric to wear around lamps.

Care Instructions

  • Hand wash in cold water
  • Use a mild detergent. No bleach or harsh chemicals
  • Wash dark and light colours separately
  • Do not wring or twist the fabric
  • Line dry in the shade
  • Warm iron only — excess heat damages the fabric
  • Store in a dry place, wrapped in white cotton cloth

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this a handloom saree or powerloom?

This Yellow & Rust Striped Mul Cotton Saree is handloom. We say so only where it is true — parts of our affordable range are powerloom, and those listings say powerloom.

What is mul cotton?

Mul, or mulmul, is a finely woven lightweight cotton. It is softer and airier than regular cotton, drapes close to the body, and becomes softer with every wash. It is the fabric people reach for through a South Indian summer.

How long is the saree, and how wide?

5.6 metres long and 1.2 metres wide.

Does it come with a blouse piece?

No. Mul cotton is a very delicate fabric, which is why no blouse piece is included with this saree. It comes as 5.6 metres on its own, so you will need to source your blouse fabric separately.

How do I wash this saree?

Hand wash it in cold water with a mild detergent. No bleach and no harsh chemicals. Wash it separately from darker colours, and do not wring or twist it — mul is a delicate weave. Line dry in the shade and use a warm iron only.

Is the gold border zari?

No. It is a gold ribbon border. We prefer to tell you exactly what it is rather than let the word "zari" do the selling.

Is mul cotton see-through?

Mul is a fine, lightweight weave, so it is more delicate than a heavy cotton. Most customers wear it with a matching petticoat, which is standard practice for any mul saree.

Will the colours run or fade?

We do not test colour-fastness batch by batch, so we will not promise you that they never will. What we can tell you is what protects the colour: a cold first wash on its own, a mild detergent, and line drying in shade rather than direct sun.

Can I wear this to the office?

Yes. It is light enough for a full working day, and the stripe pattern reads as smart rather than festive. Many customers buy mul cotton specifically as everyday and workwear sarees.

Will it shrink?

Cotton can shrink slightly on the first wash. Since this saree is free size and has no blouse piece attached, that will not affect the fit of anything.

Can I see the actual saree before I buy?

Yes. Call or WhatsApp 7353931190 and we will video call you and show you this exact saree in daylight. We started doing this because you cannot feel fabric through a screen, and we would rather you knew what you were getting.

What are the shipping charges?

Shipping is free on all prepaid orders anywhere in India. Cash on Delivery is available with a ₹150 shipping and cash-handling charge. Orders are usually dispatched within one working day.

What if I want to return it?

You have 5 days from delivery to request a return, and we ask for an unedited video of the parcel being opened from start to finish. Exchanges are within 3 days. We do not have a pickup facility, so return shipping is arranged at your end.

Note: slight colour variation may occur due to camera settings and lighting. Returns and exchanges are not accepted for such variations — this is exactly why we offer the video call.
