White & Yellow Handloom Linen Saree with Hand-Embroidered Florals

White and yellow handloom linen, in two tones that run the full length of the drape: a clean white on one side and a warm, sunny yellow on the other, meeting along a line of silver zari. A band of fine silver stripes crosses the pallu and catches the light as you move.

The embroidery sits high on the shoulder drape, where it will actually be seen. Thin brown vines, pink blossoms, coral rosettes in looped thread, small tight knots of yellow and cream, olive leaves scattered through. It is worked by hand, stitch by stitch — which is why no two of these are laid out quite the same. The pallu finishes in hand-tied tassels.

How to style it

White and yellow already carry the saree, so the blouse sets the mood. The running blouse from the same weave is the simplest match. For contrast, a deep maroon, wine or bottle green blouse sharpens the yellow, while a gold tissue blouse keeps it soft and festive. Pearls suit linen, as does one good pair of jhumkas and nothing more.

Yellow belongs to haldi mornings, Varamahalakshmi and Ugadi. The white keeps it fresh enough for a long workday, and linen breathes, so it stays comfortable from a morning function right through a long lunch.

Care

Dry clean only. The hand embroidery and the zari on this piece won't come through a home wash, so please don't hand wash or machine wash it.

Between wears, store it folded in a dry place, wrapped in white cotton cloth. Warm iron only — excess heat damages linen permanently. Cared for this way, a handloom linen saree stays with you for seven to ten years.
