The body is worked lightly: single paisley buttas and small flower sprigs with plenty of open rust between them. Towards the pallu the embroidery closes up into a dense field of paisleys, then settles into a wide worked border along the end.

An honest note on the embroidery. The motifs and the stitch vocabulary here are Chikankari. The execution is machine embroidery, not the hand needlework of Lucknow.  Chikankari-style, machine-worked, on a handloom mul cotton base.

How to style it

Rust is a warm colour and it likes warm company. A deep red blouse picks up the border directly. Off-white or ivory keeps it soft and lets the embroidery lead. If you want contrast, bottle green or deep maroon both sit well against rust without fighting it.

Gold-toned jewellery suits this saree better than silver — antique gold, temple pieces, or a single pair of long jhumkas. Keep it to one statement piece.

Warm terracotta tones like this one are easy on most skin tones and read as festive without shouting. It works for Deepavali and Ugadi, temple visits, family functions, and as an office saree on days when you want something with a bit of work on it.

Care

Dry clean is what I recommend for this saree — dense embroidery lasts longer that way.

If you would rather wash it at home: cold water, mild detergent, no brush on the embroidery. Do not wring or twist. Line dry in the shade and use a warm iron, never hot, ironing on the reverse over the embroidered areas.

Wash it separately for the first few washes. I do not make colourfastness promises I cannot verify batch by batch, and rust with white work deserves that caution.
