A red modal silk saree, hand-block printed in Ajrakh in Kutch, Gujarat. Off-white stripes run the length of the body, framed by fine printed borders, with a row of large blue circles along the edge. The pallu is a dense Ajrakh jaal of stars, flowers and medallions, finished with attached tassels. The running blouse is red with black prints.

It is authentic modal silk. It's light and flowy, and comfortable enough to wear all day, even through warm festive days.

The Print

Each stripe, circle and star on this saree was printed by hand with carved wooden blocks in Kutch, one of India's oldest block-print traditions. The stripes aren't perfectly straight, and the circles aren't perfect rounds. That is the hand at work, and no two pieces come out the same. We source it directly from the artisans who print it.

The Fabric

Modal silk has a soft sheen and a fluid drape. It's lighter than a heavy silk and breathes better, so you can wear it from a morning puja to a late evening without feeling weighed down.

The Running Blouse

The 6 metres include a running blouse in red with black prints, ready to cut and take to your tailor.

How to Style It

Red and the busy pallu already carry the look, so keep the rest simple: one statement piece of jewellery is enough. It's made for the festive season, including Navratri, Golu visits, sabhas and family functions, and it's light enough that you won't want to change out of it by evening.

Care

Hand wash gently at home in cold water with a mild detergent, or dry clean. Don't wring or twist. Dry in the shade.
