A red modal silk saree, hand-block printed in Ajrakh in Kutch, Gujarat. Fine black pinstripes run through the red body, broken by large off-white circles with stripes of their own, and finished with a scalloped border and a black edge. The pallu opens into a wide band of sunburst flowers in red, blue and black, beside a band of blue leaf buttas, finished with blue tassels. The running blouse is red with a black vine-and-leaf jaal.

It is authentic modal silk. It's light and flowy, and comfortable enough to wear all day.

The Print

The pinstripes, circles and sunbursts were all printed by hand with carved wooden blocks in Kutch. The circles aren't perfect rounds, and the stripes lean ever so slightly. That is the hand at work, and no two pieces come out the same. We source it directly from the artisans who print it.

The Fabric

Modal silk has a soft sheen and a fluid drape. It's lighter than a heavy silk and breathes better, so it stays easy from a morning event to a late lunch.

The Running Blouse

The 6 metres include a running blouse in red with a black vine-and-leaf jaal, ready to cut and take to your tailor.

How to Style It

This is Ajrakh at its most modern. The graphic circles and pinstripes look fresh with a sleeveless or high-neck blouse and one bold piece of silver jewellery. Wear it to an art exhibition, a book launch, a workshop or a weekend brunch, anywhere you want tradition to look like your own style.

Care

Hand wash gently at home in cold water with a mild detergent, or dry clean. Don't wring or twist. Dry in the shade.
