Red Maheshwari-Style Cotton Silk Saree with Gold Border and Butta

A red Maheshwari-style cotton silk saree with a gold border and small gold buttas all over, woven on a powerloom. Body, pallu and blouse are one red throughout. It's inspired by the Maheshwari weave rather than woven in Maheshwar, and we'd rather tell you that first.

Fabric & Weave

Cotton silk blends cotton with silk, giving the red a soft glow in the light. Small diamond-shaped buttas are woven across it in gold-coloured thread, not zari.

The border is a wide diamond weave in gold-coloured thread, edged in maroon. The pallu carries a sheer gold band between fine gold lines and finishes in black and gold tassels.

Size

6.24 m long, including a 90 cm red running blouse attached to the saree. 1.2 m wide and about 500 g. Free size.

How to Style It

A red saree with gold needs very little else. The attached red blouse keeps it classic. A black blouse gives it a sharper, evening edge, and a green one gives it a traditional festive feel. Gold bangles and a bindi complete it.

Care

Hand wash separately in cold water with a mild detergent, since red can bleed, especially in the first wash. No bleach and no wringing. Line dry in the shade and iron on warm.
