Purple Maheshwari-Style Cotton Silk Saree with Magenta Pallu and Flower Butta

A purple Maheshwari-style cotton silk saree with a magenta pallu, flower butta all over, and a magenta blouse piece, woven on a powerloom. It takes its look from the Maheshwari weave but isn't woven in Maheshwar, and we'd like that to be the first thing you know.

Fabric & Weave

Cotton silk is a blend of cotton and silk, which lets the purple body catch the light softly. Flower buttas are woven through it in gold-coloured thread, not zari.

The border is a fine lattice woven in gold-coloured thread. The magenta pallu carries a line of larger flower buttas and meets the purple at a gold band lined in magenta, finished with black and gold tassels.

Size

6.24 m long, including a 90 cm magenta running blouse attached to the saree, with flower buttas on it too. 1.2 m wide and about 500 g. Free size.

How to Style It

Purple and magenta sit close together, so the saree reads rich rather than contrasty, with the gold doing the lifting. The attached magenta blouse carries the pallu colour through. A purple blouse keeps the look tonal. Gold jhumkas and a few glass bangles in magenta finish it.

Care

Hand wash separately in cold water with a mild detergent, since deep purples and magentas can bleed. No bleach and no wringing. Line dry in the shade and iron on warm.
