A purple handloom mul cotton saree, dotted with small bursts of colour. Soft pom poms, round mirrors ringed in pink, turquoise, yellow and white thread, and little geometric motifs stitched in between. A thick row of purple tassels finishes the pallu.
The purple keeps it grounded. The pom poms and mirrors keep it light-hearted.
What is handmade here, and what is not. The mul cotton is handloom. The motifs and the mirror work are machine embroidery, not hand embroidery. I would rather you know that before you choose it.

How to style it
Let the blouse borrow one of the thread colours. Hot pink or turquoise draws out the mirror rings. Mustard yellow warms the purple. If you want it softer, a white or pastel blouse lets the pom poms do the talking.
Keep the jewellery to one piece. Oxidised silver jhumkas, or a single silver neckpiece, sit well beside the mirrors.
It is well-suited to Navratri and Golu visits, Deepavali gatherings, mehendi and haldi functions, and college festivals. Cotton is a sensible choice around lamps, and mul cotton stays easy to wear through a long evening.
Care
I recommend dry cleaning. It keeps the mirror work and pom poms at their best for longer.
To wash at home: cold water, a mild detergent and a gentle hand. No brush, no wringing or twisting. Line dry in the shade. Iron warm on the reverse, and go around the mirrors and pom poms rather than over them.
Wash it on its own for the first few washes. I only promise what I have checked, and colourfastness can vary batch to batch.

Frequently asked questions
Is this purple saree handloom or powerloom?
The mul cotton fabric is handloom. The embroidery and mirror work added on top of it are done by machine. Both are true of the same saree, and I would rather you know both.
Is the mirror work done by hand?
No. The mirror work and the small coloured motifs are machine embroidery. The stitching is neat and even, and I do not describe machine work as handwork.
How long and how wide is this saree?
This saree is 5.4 metres long and 1.18 metres wide.
Does it come with a blouse piece?
No. This saree comes without a blouse piece, so you will need to arrange blouse fabric separately.
What is mul cotton like to wear?
Mul cotton, also called mulmul, is a fine, soft, lightweight cotton. It breathes well in warm South Indian weather and stays comfortable through a long day or a long evening.
What colour blouse goes with a purple pom pom saree?
Pick up one of the thread colours. A hot pink or turquoise blouse brings out the mirror rings, and a mustard yellow blouse warms the purple. For a softer look, a white or pastel blouse lets the pom poms lead.
Can I wear this saree for Navratri, Golu or Deepavali?
Yes. The pom poms and mirror work suit festive visits, Golu evenings and Deepavali gatherings. Cotton is also a sensible fabric to wear around lamps.
Is it a good choice for a mehendi or haldi function?
Yes. The playful pom poms and multicolour mirror work are well-suited to mehendi and haldi functions, where something light and cheerful works better than heavy silk.
Can I wash this saree at home?
Dry cleaning is recommended. If you wash it at home, use cold water and a mild detergent, handle it gently, never use a brush, and do not wring or twist it. Line dry in the shade and iron warm on the reverse, going around the mirrors and pom poms rather than over them.
Will the purple colour bleed when washed?
I cannot promise it will not, because colourfastness can vary from batch to batch. Wash it on its own for the first few washes, in cold water.
Can I see this saree on a video call before I order?
Yes. Message me on WhatsApp at 7353931190 and we will set up a video call. I will show you this exact saree, the fabric, the mirror work and the pom poms up close.
