Is this saree handloom?

No. It is powerloom-woven, mill-spun cotton in a khadi weave.

We would rather tell you at the top of the page than let you assume otherwise. Around 80% of our range is made by hand by skilled artisans, and those pieces are labelled clearly. This one is khadi-weave cotton on a powerloom — which is why it sits at the accessible end of our collection. The breathability and drape are unchanged; only the making is different.

How to tell for yourself: handloom cloth carries small irregularities — thread density that shifts, an imperfect selvedge, occasional joining knots. Powerloom cloth is even throughout. Neither is a defect.

Fabric and drape

Light, breathable khadi-weave cotton with a soft texture. It pleats neatly, sits well through long hours, and softens with every wash.

Styling navy and green

Navy behaves almost like a neutral, which makes this one of the easier dark sarees to style.

• The attached green running blouse is the ready answer — rich, tonal, no decisions needed.
• Mustard, gold or off-white all work as contrast blouses against navy, and any of them lifts the drape for daytime. A printed or ikat blouse gives it more character than another plain one.
• Silver and oxidised jewellery look sharper against navy than gold does, though gold works if you're leaning traditional.
• Deep indigo and bottle green both suit cool undertones especially well, and the contrast keeps the saree from flattening on any skin tone.

Care

Hand wash or machine wash in cold to lukewarm water with a mild detergent. No bleach or harsh chemicals. Wash darks separately, especially for the first few washes. Don't wring or twist. Line dry in the shade — indigo and navy fade noticeably in direct sun. Warm iron only. Store dry, wrapped in white cotton cloth. Small knots in cotton are natural. Looked after this way, it lasts 7 to 10 years.
