What's in the set

Top: navy blue, with a centre column of arch-shaped panels, each holding a red and off-white lotus motif. Ring-chain borders frame the column, and the sides carry rows of small printed buttas.

Bottom: navy blue, with an allover print of off-white dotted swirls.

Dupatta: navy blue, with the same dotted swirls across the body, ring-chain borders, an arch panel near the end, a paisley border and tassels.

Fabric and craft

Modal silk is soft and fluid, with a quiet sheen. It is light enough to wear comfortably through a warm day.

Every motif on this set was printed by hand in Kutch, the home of Ajrakh. The wooden blocks leave small differences from one repeat to the next, which is how you know a person made it.

The fabric itself is not handloom. The handwork here is the printing.
