A three-piece unstitched dress material in 100% cotton, mustard yellow, with white florals printed by hand. The top carries hakoba embroidery underneath the print, so the fabric has texture as well as pattern. Nothing is cut or sewn. The lengths are yours to take to your tailor and have made exactly the way you want them.
What You Receive
- Top fabric — 2.4 m mustard yellow cotton with machine hakoba embroidery, hand block printed with white florals over it
- Bottom fabric — 2.2 m plain mustard yellow cotton, hand block printed with white floral buttas
- Dupatta — 2.27 m soft mustard yellow cotton in a checks weave, hand block printed to match the set, with lace finished along two sides
Two honest notes. The cotton is not handloom. And the hakoba embroidery is done on a machine. What is done by hand here is the block printing, on all three pieces. We would rather tell you that plainly than let you find out when it arrives.
The Craft
Hakoba is embroidery worked straight into the cloth, with tiny cut-out eyelets that let light through. On this set it is stitched in thread the same colour as the fabric, so it reads as texture rather than decoration.
The white florals are hand block printed on top of it. A carved wooden block is inked and pressed onto the cloth, one impression at a time. Because a hand places every one, you will see small shifts in spacing and depth of colour from motif to motif. That is the mark of the hand, not a flaw in the cloth.
How to Style It
Mustard is a warm, easy colour to wear. Gold-toned or oxidised jewellery both sit well with it. A white or ivory jutti picks up the florals.
The top has open eyelets from the hakoba work, so many women ask their tailor for a light cotton lining. A straight or A-line kurta lets the print run uninterrupted.
This is a set made for the everyday — the office, a regular weekday, the days you want to look put together without thinking too hard about it. The mustard keeps it from ever feeling plain.
Care
Hand wash in cold to lukewarm water with a mild detergent. Wash it separately the first two or three times — hand block printed cloth releases a little colour early on, and then it settles. No bleach or harsh chemicals. Do not wring or twist. Line dry in the shade, never direct sun. Warm iron only, on the reverse side to protect the embroidery.
Cotton may shrink slightly on the first wash. Worth mentioning to your tailor before anything is cut. Cared for this way, it stays with you for 7 to 10 years.
Questions
Is this stitched or unstitched?
Unstitched. You receive the fabric lengths; your tailor makes it up. The photograph shows the fabric draped on a mannequin.
What exactly do I receive?
Three pieces — 2.4 m hakoba top fabric, 2.2 m bottom fabric and a 2.27 m checks-weave dupatta with lace on two sides, all in mustard yellow cotton with hand block printed white florals.
What is the fabric?
100% cotton, for all three pieces, including the dupatta.
Is it handloom?
No. The cotton is not handloom. The block printing on all three pieces is done by hand.
Is the embroidery done by hand?
No. The hakoba embroidery on the top is machine work. We say so because you deserve to know exactly what you are paying for.
What is hakoba?
A style of embroidery stitched into the cloth with small cut-out eyelets, usually in thread the same colour as the fabric. It gives the top a raised, lacy texture.
Will I need a lining?
The eyelets are open, so a light cotton lining is a good idea for the top. Your tailor can advise.
Is it suitable for office wear?
Yes. This set is made for office and daily wear — soft cotton, in a colour that holds its own on a working day.
Is the dupatta lace stitched on?
Yes, the lace is already finished along two sides of the dupatta.
What is the real colour?
Mustard yellow, with white florals. Screens vary. A video call is the honest way to check before you buy.
Will the colour run?
A little in the first two or three washes, as hand block printed cloth does. Wash it separately at first and it settles.
Will it shrink?
Cotton may shrink slightly. Allow for it when stitching, and tell your tailor before cutting.
Can I see it before I buy?
Yes. Message us on WhatsApp at 7353931190 and we will show you the fabric live on a video call, in daylight.
Do you ship across India?
Yes, to all pin codes. Free shipping on prepaid orders. COD available with a ₹150 handling charge.
How quickly is it dispatched?
Usually within one working day. After that, two to three days to metro cities and five to seven to non-metro.
Can I return or exchange it?
Return within five days of receiving it, with an unedited video of the parcel being opened from start to finish. Exchange within three days, in original condition and packaging. Return shipping is arranged at your end.
