A light grey saree with a bright yellow pallu and a yellow temple border, woven on a powerloom in West Bengal. The grey is soft and cool, almost silvery. The yellow arrives all at once at the pallu, where brighter yellow jamdani-style motifs step across in zigzag chains over fine yellow stripes. Yellow temple triangles edge the border. It is 6 metres long, including a running blouse.

We tell you handloom or powerloom on every saree. This one is powerloom. The yellow motifs are woven by the loom, not inlaid by hand, so we call them jamdani-style.

Fabric & Weave

The fabric is sold in the trade as soft Dhakai jamdani. It is light and soft, and easy to drape. The style comes from the jamdani tradition of Dhaka. This saree was woven in West Bengal, India.

How to Style It

Grey and yellow is a modern pairing with a festive heart. The yellow suits a haldi, Saraswati Puja or a morning puja at home. The grey keeps it wearable for a regular workday. A yellow blouse makes the pallu flow into the drape. A mustard or deep green blouse adds depth. Gold jhumkas warm it up for a function. Silver keeps it cool and contemporary.

Care Instructions

Hand wash gently in cold water with a mild detergent, or dry clean. No bleach or harsh chemicals. Wash it separately the first time, so the yellow stays off the grey. Do not wring or twist. Line dry in the shade, since bright yellows fade in strong sun. Iron on a warm setting, never hot. Store folded in a white cotton cloth in a dry place.

It is sold in the trade as soft Dhakai jamdani fabric. It is light, soft and easy to drape.

Is it a Bangladeshi Dhakai jamdani?

No. The jamdani style originates in Dhaka, but this saree was woven in West Bengal, India. We call it Dhakai-style so the origin stays clear.

What blouse should I wear with a grey and yellow saree?

A yellow blouse continues the pallu into the drape. A mustard or deep green blouse adds depth. A plain grey blouse can make it look flat, so we would suggest a colour.

We photograph every saree as close to its true colour as we can. Lighting and screen settings can still cause small differences.
