A three-piece unstitched dress material in cotton, indigo blue, with florals printed by hand with wooden blocks. The yoke carries mirror work and hand-stitched thread work on the leaves, set inside a diamond grid. The dupatta is ivory, hand block-printed in blue, with hakoba along both edges. Nothing is cut or sewn. The lengths are yours to take to your tailor.
What You Receive
- Kurta fabric — 2.32 m long, 1.16 m wide. Indigo blue cotton, hand block-printed with florals, with a marked yoke panel
- Bottom fabric — 1.18 m long, 1 m wide. Plain indigo blue cotton
- Dupatta — 2.4 m long, 0.97 m wide. Ivory, hand block-printed in blue, with hakoba on both sides and a lace edging
The Yoke
This is where the hand shows most. Every flower on the yoke carries a small mirror. The leaves are worked in thread by hand, so each one sits a little differently from the next.
The white diamond grid and the piping around the yoke are machine-stitched. We would rather tell you exactly what is done by hand, and what is not.
The Print
The florals on the kurta and the borders on the dupatta are printed by hand, one block at a time. Look closely and you will see small shifts in colour and alignment where each block met the cloth. That is the printer's hand, not a flaw.
The hakoba on the dupatta is eyelet embroidery — small cut-work flowers along both edges — that lifts the whole set without making it heavy.
How to Style It
This is an everyday set, made for work days and easy weekends. The bottom length suits a straight pant — ask your tailor for a straight or ankle-length cut. The yoke does the work, so keep the neckline simple and let the mirrors show.
Oxidised silver jhumkas suit the indigo well. A plain watch, a pair of juttis, and you are ready.
Care
Hand wash in cold water with a mild detergent. Wash it separately the first two or three times — hand block-printed indigo can release a little colour early on. Keep the ivory dupatta apart from the blue pieces. No bleach or harsh chemicals. Do not wring or twist, and be gentle around the mirrors and the hakoba. Line dry in the shade. Warm iron only, on the reverse side of the yoke, never directly on the mirrors.
Cotton may shrink slightly on the first wash. Worth mentioning to your tailor before anything is cut.
Questions
Is this stitched or unstitched?
Unstitched. You receive the three fabric lengths; your tailor makes it up.
What exactly do I receive?
A 2.32 m by 1.16 m kurta fabric, a 1.18 m by 1 m bottom fabric, and a 2.4 m by 0.97 m dupatta.
What kind of bottom can I make from 1.18 m?
A straight pant. The length is not enough for a salwar or patiala.
Is the yoke embroidery done by hand?
Partly. The thread work on the leaves is done by hand. The white diamond grid lines and the piping are machine-stitched. Each flower carries a small mirror.
Is the print done by hand?
Yes. The florals on the kurta fabric and the borders on the dupatta are hand block-printed.
What is hakoba?
Eyelet embroidery — small cut-work flowers stitched into cotton. On this set it runs along both edges of the dupatta.
How is this different from your hakoba dress materials?
On those sets, the hakoba is on the kurta fabric itself. On this one, the kurta has a mirror-work yoke instead, and the hakoba is on the dupatta.
Is it suitable for office wear?
Yes. It is made for everyday wear, and the indigo and ivory keep it quiet enough for a work day.
Will the colour run?
A little in the first two or three washes, as hand block-printed cotton does. Wash it separately at first, and keep the ivory dupatta apart from the blue pieces.
Will it shrink?
Cotton may shrink slightly. Allow for it when stitching, and tell your tailor before cutting.
Do you ship across India?
Yes, to all pin codes. Free shipping on prepaid orders. COD available with a ₹150 handling charge.
How quickly is it dispatched?
Usually within one working day. After that, two to three days to metro cities and five to seven to non-metro.
Can I return or exchange it?
Return within five days of receiving it, with an unedited video of the parcel being opened from start to finish. Exchange within three days, in original condition and packaging. Return shipping is arranged at your end.
