The Green & Purple Khadi Cotton Saree sets a teal-leaning green body against a deep purple pallu, with a matching purple running blouse attached. Green and purple is an unusual pairing on cotton, and it reads as considered rather than loud โ€” good for the woman who would rather not turn up in the same saree as everyone else.

Handloom or powerloom?

Powerloom. This is mill-spun cotton in a khadi weave, not handwoven.

We would rather say so than let you find out later. Roughly 80% of our range is made by hand by skilled artisans, and those pieces carry the label. This one doesn't. It is khadi-weave cotton on a powerloom, which is what keeps it at the accessible end of the collection โ€” same breathability, same easy drape, honest about how it was made.

How to check for yourself: handloom cloth has small natural irregularities โ€” uneven thread density, a selvedge that wanders slightly, occasional joining knots. Powerloom cloth is consistent throughout. Neither is a defect; they are simply different things.

Fabric and drape

Lightweight khadi-weave cotton with a faint surface texture. It breathes properly in humid weather, pleats without fighting you, and softens with every wash.

Styling green and purple

Both are jewel tones, so the saree is already doing the work. Keep everything around it calm.

  • The attached purple running blouse is the safe, tonal choice โ€” quiet enough for office, rich enough for an evening.
  • If you want contrast instead, an off-white or gold-toned blouse breaks the two jewel tones apart nicely. Avoid a third strong colour.
  • Silver and oxidised jewellery suit this palette better than heavy gold. One statement neckpiece is enough.
  • Cool undertones โ€” the ones silver flatters โ€” wear teal and purple especially well, though this pairing is forgiving across the range.

When to wear it

Office wear ยท sabha and cultural events ยท temple visits ยท Ugadi and Varamahalakshmi mornings ยท evening functions ยท monsoon and summer months, when cotton is the only thing that makes sense.

Measurements and what's included

Care

Hand wash or machine wash in cold to lukewarm water with a mild detergent. No bleach or harsh chemicals. Wash darks and lights separately โ€” purple and teal both bleed a little at first. Don't wring or twist. Line dry in the shade. Warm iron only. Store dry, wrapped in white cotton cloth. The odd knot in cotton is natural. Cared for this way, the saree lasts 7 to 10 years.

Questions buyers ask

Is this saree handwoven?

No. It is powerloom-woven khadi-weave cotton, mill-spun rather than handwoven. Around 80% of our wider catalogue is artisan-made; this piece is our accessible everyday option.

What exactly is the shade of green?

A teal-leaning green rather than a bright or grassy one. Screens render teal badly, so ask us for a video call if the exact shade matters to you.

How long is it?

6 metres, including an 80 cm running blouse. The width is 1.2 metres.

Does it come with a blouse?

Yes โ€” an unstitched running blouse in the purple of the pallu, attached to the saree, ready for your tailor.

Does green suit everyone?

This teal-purple combination is unusually forgiving. It sits especially well on cool undertones, but it works across the range because neither colour is close to skin tone.

Can I wear this to the office?

Yes. Worn with the attached purple blouse it reads as understated. Swap in a contrast blouse and it moves to an evening function.

Will the colours bleed?

Wash it separately the first two or three times. Deep purples and teals release a little dye at first, as most cotton dyes do.

Will it shrink?

Slightly, on the first wash. Cold to lukewarm water and shade drying keep it to a minimum.

What if I want to return it?

You have 5 days from receipt, and an unedited parcel-opening video from start to finish is required. Exchanges are within 3 days, in original condition and packaging. Return shipping is arranged and paid by you โ€” we don't have a pickup facility.
