A three-piece unstitched dress material in cream Chanderi cotton silk, with a yoke worked entirely by hand. Fine running stitches draw the pattern, bold pink, blue and mustard thread fills it in, and real mirrors are stitched in all the way down. The dupatta is cream cotton silk with leaves woven into the cloth, finished with tassels. The bottom is plain cream cotton. Nothing is cut or sewn. The lengths go to your tailor.

What You Receive

  • Kurta fabric — 2.5 m long, 1.1 m wide. Cream Chanderi cotton silk with a hand-embroidered mirror-work yoke
  • Bottom fabric — 2.4 m long, 1.05 m wide. Plain cream, pure cotton
  • Dupatta — 2.5 m long, 0.9 m wide. Cream cotton silk with woven leaf and flower motifs, tassels already finished

The Handwork

Every stitch on this yoke was made by hand. A diamond panel sits at the centre, filled with small stars, each one holding a mirror. Rows of mirrors frame it on both sides, and a fan of pink, blue and mustard thread opens out below. Small flowers are scattered across the rest of the kurta fabric.

The mirrors are real mirrors, stitched into the cloth. Not stickers. Because it is all done by hand, no two motifs sit exactly alike. That is the embroiderer's hand, not a flaw.

The Dupatta

The leaves on the dupatta are not printed. They are woven into the fabric, in pink, mustard, olive green and blue, climbing alongside white geometric patterns and woven flowers. The tassels come ready, so there is nothing left to finish.

The Fabric

Chanderi is a light fabric with a soft sheen, made in silk, cotton silk or plain cotton. This one is Chanderi cotton silk, so the kurta has a gentle glow without the weight of silk. The bottom is pure cotton, so the set stays comfortable through a long day.

How to Style It

This is a festive set. It suits Navratri and Golu visits, Deepavali, family functions and evenings at a sabha. The yoke is the statement, so keep the neckline close to the embroidered shape and let the mirrors show.

Oxidised silver jhumkas sit well with the mirror work. If you prefer gold, keep it light and let the colour in the thread do the talking.

Care

Dry clean only. The handwork is intricate and the mirrors are stitched in, so a home wash is not worth the risk. If you press it at home, use a warm iron on the reverse side, never directly on the mirrors. Store it folded in a dry place, wrapped in a white cotton cloth.
