A blue modal silk saree, hand-block printed in Ajrakh in Kutch, Gujarat. Rows of fan-shaped buttas in black, maroon and off-white cover the blue body, edged by a printed medallion border and a black band. The pallu flows into a floral vine jaal in maroon, black and off-white. The running blouse carries a dense Ajrakh jaal of stars, medallions and lozenges.
It is authentic modal silk. It's light and flowy, and comfortable enough to wear all day, even on warm days.
The Print
Every fan, flower and medallion on this saree was printed by hand with carved wooden blocks in Kutch. Look closely and each butta sits a little differently from the next, because each one was placed by hand. No two pieces come out the same. We source it directly from the artisans who print it.
The Fabric
Modal silk has a soft sheen and a fluid drape. It's lighter than a heavy silk and breathes better, so it moves with you from a morning at the temple to an evening with family.
The Running Blouse
The 6 metres include a running blouse in blue with an allover Ajrakh jaal, attached after the pallu. Once you cut the blouse away, the pallu end is left open. You can tie your own tassels there, or ask your tailor to finish it with a zigzag edge.
How to Style It
Blue with maroon is a calm, grown-up combination, so it doesn't need much added. One statement piece of jewellery is enough. Wear it for temple visits, a housewarming, a small function or a weekend lunch, whenever you want to look dressed without looking dressed up.
Care
Hand wash gently at home in cold water with a mild detergent, or dry clean. Don't wring or twist. Dry in the shade.
