A black handloom mul cotton saree with small bursts of colour scattered across it. Mirrors ringed in pink, yellow, blue and white thread. Soft pom poms in marigold, blue and white. Tiny cross-shaped motifs in between.

There is no border. The colour sits on plain black, spaced out so each mirror and pom pom has room of its own. Black tassels finish the pallu.

What is handloom here, and what is not. The mul cotton is handloom. The thread embroidery and the mirror work are machine-done. The pom poms are stitched on to the saree.

Mul is a fine, light weave. Where the saree is folded, you may see the backs of the mirrors and pom poms showing faintly through the layer beneath. That is the lightness of the fabric, not a mark on it.

Fabric and weave

  • Handloom mul cotton, soft and breathable
  • Machine embroidery with mirror work, ringed in pink, yellow, blue and white
  • Pom poms in marigold, blue and white, stitched on
  • Small cross-shaped embroidered motifs in yellow and white
  • No border
  • Black tassels along the pallu edge
  • 5.3 metres, without blouse piece
  • Free size
  • Made in India, sourced directly from artisans

How to style it

Pick one colour from the saree and let the blouse carry it. Marigold, hot pink or sky blue pulls that shade forward. A plain black blouse keeps everything calm and lets the colour stay small and scattered.

Oxidised silver sits well with mirror work. Choose one statement piece, jhumkas or a neckpiece, not both.

Pom poms and mirrors bring a festive lightness, which makes this an easy choice for Navratri and Golu evenings, mehendi functions and festive get-togethers. At Deepavali, cotton is a sensible drape around diyas, and mul stays comfortable from morning puja to late evening.

Care

I recommend dry cleaning. Mirrors, embroidery and pom poms all hold their shape best that way.

If you would rather wash it at home, wash gently in cold water with a mild detergent. No brush on the embroidered areas. Do not wring or twist. Line dry in the shade. Iron warm, never hot, on the reverse, and keep the iron away from the pom poms.

Wash it on its own for the first few washes. I do not promise colourfastness, because it is not something I can check batch by batch.

See it before you buy

Small spots of colour on black are hard to judge in a photograph. Message me on WhatsApp at 7353931190 and we will set up a video call, so you can see the mirrors, the pom poms and the fall of the mul in real light before you decide.

Frequently asked questions

Is this a handloom saree?

The base fabric is handloom mul cotton. The embroidery and mirror work on it are done by machine. I would rather you know both before you buy.

Is the mirror work done by hand or by machine?

By machine. The coloured thread rings around the mirrors and the small cross-shaped motifs are machine embroidery, not hand embroidery.

Are the pom poms stitched on or glued?

Stitched. Every pom pom is sewn on to the saree, not glued.

What colours are on this saree?

The saree is black. The mirrors are ringed in pink, yellow, blue and white thread, and the pom poms are marigold, blue and white.

Does this saree have a border?

No. There is no border. The black runs edge to edge, and all the colour comes from the mirrors, pom poms and small motifs.

How long is it, and does it come with a blouse piece?

The saree is 5.3 metres long and free size. It does not come with a blouse piece, so you will need blouse fabric separately.

Why can I see faint circles on the fabric in the photos?

Mul cotton is fine and light. Where the saree is folded, the backs of the mirrors and pom poms on the layer underneath show through faintly. They are not stains or marks.

How do I wash this pom pom saree?

Dry clean is my first recommendation. If you wash it at home, use cold water and a mild detergent, keep brushes away from the embroidery, do not wring it, line dry in shade, and iron warm on the reverse, away from the pom poms.

Which blouse colour goes with a black multicolour saree?

Pick one colour from the saree itself. Marigold, pink or blue gives contrast, while a plain black blouse keeps the look calm and lets the small bursts of colour lead.

Is this saree suitable for Navratri?

Yes. The multicolour mirrors and pom poms suit Navratri and Golu evenings, and mul cotton stays light and breathable through long hours of celebration.

Can I see this saree on a video call before ordering?

Yes. Message me on WhatsApp at 7353931190 and we will set up a video call. I will show you the mirrors, the pom poms and how the mul falls, in real light.

What are the shipping, COD and return terms?

Shipping is free on prepaid orders within India. Cash on Delivery is available with a ₹150 handling charge. Orders usually leave within one working day and reach metro cities in 2–3 days and non-metro cities in 5–7 days. You can request a return within 5 days of receipt with an unedited parcel-opening video, or an exchange within 3 days.
