Black Hand-Block Printed Cotton Saree with Star Jaal and Paisley Pallu

A black saree in 100% cotton, hand-block printed by artisans in India. A dense jaal of off-white eight-point stars covers the body, framed by an off-white border of black geometric crosses and diamonds, edged with a thin khaki stripe. The pallu runs in stripes of khaki, diamond chains and Greek-key bands, crossed by a wide black band of large off-white paisleys.

Every motif is pressed by hand with a carved wooden block, so you'll see small variations from print to print — a slight shift in tone, a softened edge. That's the hand at work, not a flaw.

The blouse fabric comes attached — off-white with small black hearts all over, edged with the geometric border and a khaki stripe. Cut it from the saree and have it tailored to your fit.

Black and off-white never dates — for office days, evening events and gallery visits. Oxidised silver or a bold statement neckpiece suits it.

Care

• Before the first wash, soak in salt water for a few minutes — no more than 10 — to help set the colour.
• The colour may run. Hand wash separately in cold water with a mild detergent, or give it for dry cleaning.
