A black modal silk saree, hand-block printed in Ajrakh in Kutch, Gujarat. Indigo-blue heart-leaf buttas are scattered across the black body, framed by a floral scroll border. The pallu opens into a dense Ajrakh jaal in red, indigo and off-white, finished with red and navy tassels.
It is authentic modal silk. It's light and flowy, and comfortable enough to wear all day, even on warm summer days.
The Print
Ajrakh is one of the oldest block-print traditions of Kutch. Every motif on this saree is printed by hand with carved wooden blocks, one impression at a time. You'll see tiny shifts in line and spacing. They are the mark of the hands that made it, and no two pieces come out exactly alike. We source it directly from the artisans who print it.
The Fabric
Modal silk has a soft sheen and a fluid drape. It falls closer to the body than a heavy silk and breathes better, so it stays comfortable through South Indian summers, a full office day, or an evening function that runs late.
The Running Blouse
The 6 metres include a running blouse in a bold off-white lattice with a matching border, ready to cut and take to your tailor.
How to Style It
Let the print lead. One statement piece of jewellery is enough, because the pallu does the rest. Wear it to the office on a warm weekday, to a sabha or cultural evening, or to a family function where you want to look put-together without looking loud.
Care
Hand wash gently at home in cold water with a mild detergent, or dry clean. Don't wring or twist. Dry in the shade.
